At Moinhos Velhos Health Retreat we offer fasting programs with fruit and vegetable juices and vegetable broth. Our juices and broth are freshly made with primarily organic fruits and vegetables, mostly from our own organic garden and from local farmers. With the juices you will take psyllium and bentonite powders. Between the juices various special herbs are taken to clean the entire gastrointestinal tract, eliminate toxins, heavy metals and parasites etc. from your system. Our Detox Programs will detoxify and cleanse not only your small and large intestines, but all your organs and cells. This cleansing will prevent disease and is the first step in restoring your body to optimum health.

We have a safe and supportive environment where you will wake up to the songs of the birds in the morning and go to bed at night

Located in a tranquil valley, next to the Barragem da Bravura, 13 km from Lagos and away from the regular tourist areas, our experienced staff will guide you and support you through the cleansing process. We start every day with yoga and meditation or Qi Gong, and end every day with meditation.

All the herbs, the juices and broth, powders and pills are included in the program cost. Also included are the use of our salt water pool, sauna, hot tub, QRS magnet healing bed, detox foot bath, colonic irrigation, zapping as well as weekly excursion trips to the West Coast or Lagos

As extra treatments we offer Swedish massage, Lymph drainage massage, Thai Yoga massage, Aromatherapy massage, Sacro Cranial Therapy, Bicom Therapy, Reflexology, Healing, Homeopathy, Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Shiatsu, Introspect/Physiospect.

We endeavour to offer all of the above therapies for all the programs, but some therapies are subject to availability of the therapist. The cost for of the extra treatments range from €65 to €85 per session.

The sauna is on every second day.

Our goal is not only to effect a transformation on the physical level, but also on the Emotional, Mental and Spiritual levels. We have morning meditation, breathing exercises - pranayama and yoga asanas- or chi gong, and we finish every day with meditation.

Yoga and fasting go hand in hand.
The yoga classes are suited to people of all levels. The combination of gentle moving, stretching and twisting together with deep breathing, speeds up the detox process. Through the practice of yoga one can find an inner peace and stillness, which reduces the toxic effects of stress and anxiety. Often during a fast, when the putrefied deposits are being eliminated from the system, old and sometimes forgotten emotions may surface. Yoga can help to deal with these.

Through the practice of meditation, we learn more about the mind, our thoughts, our habits, and this learning opens up the possibility for change. Instruction is given in various meditation techniques. Fasting is the oldest natural therapy for restoring health. Animals always fast when they are sick. Jesus was a great advocate of fasting and colon cleansing as described in The Gospel of Peace. Fasting is practiced and recommenced by most religions. Swami Sivananda encouraged fasting for physical, mental and spiritual purification. He says.

It checks the emotions. It controls the senses also. It is a great penance. It purifies the mind and the heart. It destroys a multitude of sins. Fasting controls the tongue in particular which is the deadliest enemy of man. Fasting overhauls the respiratory, circulatory, digestive and urinary systems. It destroys all the impurities of the body and all sorts of poisons. It eliminates uric acid deposits. Just as impure gold is rendered pure by melting it in the crucible again and again, so also this impure mind is rendered purer by fasting.
