We offer a holistic cleansing package which can dramatically enhance your state of well being, making you feel years younger. We truly love what we do, which is why we do it, and we would like to share it all with you.

At Moinhos Velhos, we aim to work in harmony with all living things. We endeavor to work with the energy of the earth - with plants, with trees - the vegetables and the fruits for our fasting juices are organically grown. We work with the energy of healing and with the energy within - our Higher Selves. Whilst fasting, one often feels more attuned to this energy - this harmony, to the silence and peace both within and all around.

Our facilities

Our facilities include a glass enclosed Yoga and Meditation Temple, a Finnish type sauna and a full size salt water swimming pool (no chlorine).

The gardens here offer a sanctuary of stillness and peace - welcoming you to explore their paths and discover your own sacred space.

Accommodating is simple, but comfortable - in line with our ethos of simple living and high thinking.

We have a guest house with four rooms (two single, two double), two guest cottages and a converted old water-mill housing a further two single rooms. There is a separate building with three treatment rooms, a comfortable reading room with books, music, and a small "boutique".

Both Anne Karine and Frank had experienced first hand the positive results from periods of fasting, yoga and healthy living. This was the seed that was planted in our minds, and after some time for germination, it was time to set up a center of our own.

We were in Norway at this time and the Yoga and Health Center was set up just outside Kristiansand. Here we were offering juice fasting programs. In addition to our own fasting experiences, we had also been inspired by the works of Bernard Jensen and Dr Gerson.

We created a juice fasting program with the added benefits of yoga, meditation, alternative therapies and the salt water yoga kriyas - this involved drinking two liters of salt water by 8AM, followed by three liters of fresh water before noon. It was very effective, but tough. Many people could not take the salt water, and many others could not consume so much water in such a short period. I got used to it so much and really liked it.

After some time, we became aware that Norway was not the ideal place to do fasting and purification programs - too cold. Even in southern Norway we could have snow on the ground in May. We wanted to be further South - in a warmer climate. So, for a while, Anne Karine settled in Spain and I in Portugal. I was also traveling around giving workshops and conducting fasting programs in various places and countries. However, after a while I joined Anne Karine in Spain. But we could not find the right place there and we were guided to settle in Portugal.

In Portugal, we were guided to to establish our canter at Moinhos Velhos ("the old mill") near Barragem da Bravura in the Algarve.

Our location

Moinhos Velhos is 13 km inland from Lagos. By car we are a little over one hour from the airport at Faro. Although only 15 minutes from the city of Lagos, our detox valley is completely secluded - away from the traditional holiday resorts. It is a place of peace and tranquility, with the songs of the birds in the morning and the silence of the stars at night. The ultimate place for a fasting holiday
