Terms & conditions
The policies below apply to every booking made with Moinhos Velhos. We’ve written them in plain language on purpose — if anything is unclear, just ask us before you book.
1. Booking and payment
A deposit of €350 per person secures your place on a retreat. The remaining balance is due no later than 14 days before your programme begins — if it isn’t received by then, we may need to release your booking. Every booking is provisional until we’ve received and reviewed your Health Questionnaire.
2. Changing your dates
Plans change, and we try to make moving your booking as painless as possible. Transfers can only be made to a programme starting within 12 months of your original dates.

4. If we have to cancel
On rare occasions we may need to cancel a retreat for reasons beyond our control. If that happens, we’ll let you know as soon as we possibly can. We strongly recommend travel insurance, since we’re not able to reimburse travel, accommodation or other costs you’ve already committed to.
5. Your health and our disclaimer
Joining the programme is your own decision, taken at your own risk. Neither Moinhos Velhos nor our facilitators and therapists provide medical diagnosis or treatment — what we offer is complementary, non-medical guidance alongside detox, fasting, yoga and bodywork. You’re responsible for telling us about any relevant health conditions, injuries, medical history or medications, and we’d always encourage a conversation with your own doctor first if you have any concerns.
Every guest must complete a Health Questionnaire at least 14 days before arrival (within 48 hours of booking, if you book closer to your start date than that). It lets us confirm the programme is a safe fit for you. If it isn’t submitted in time, or raises concerns we can’t resolve before you arrive, we may need to decline or adjust your participation — standard cancellation terms would then apply, with no refund.
6. Liability
You take part in all retreat activities voluntarily and at your own risk. Beyond what’s required by law, Moinhos Velhos and our staff, facilitators and therapists aren’t liable for injury, illness, loss or damage arising during your stay. Your wellbeing and the choices you make during the programme remain your own responsibility.
7. Age and eligibility
You must be 18 or older to join us. We reserve the right to decline or end someone’s participation where health, safety or undisclosed information make it necessary, or where behaviour affects the safety or comfort of other guests. No refund is given in these circumstances.
8. Your belongings
Please look after your own valuables and avoid leaving them unattended in communal areas — we can’t be held responsible for items lost, stolen or damaged during your stay.
9. Respecting each other
We ask every guest to treat other guests and our staff with respect. Disruptive or harmful behaviour may result in being asked to leave, without a refund.
10. Privacy and your data
We collect the personal information you give us — your name and contact details, plus any health information in your questionnaire — to support your booking, communicate with you about the retreat, and, only with your consent, send occasional news or offers. We share it with third parties only where necessary, such as therapists directly involved in your care, and we don’t keep it longer than needed.
Under GDPR you can ask to see, correct, delete or restrict the data we hold, object to how it’s used, or withdraw consent at any time — just get in touch and we’ll help.
11. Photography
We sometimes take photos or video during a retreat for use in our own marketing. If you’d rather not appear in these, just let a member of staff know before the programme starts.
12. Circumstances beyond our control
We aren’t liable for delays or cancellations caused by events outside our control — extreme weather, government action or a pandemic, for example. Where this happens, we’ll do what we reasonably can to offer an alternative or a refund.
13. Our materials
Any material we provide during your retreat — workshop content, handouts and the like — remains the property of Moinhos Velhos and our facilitators, and shouldn’t be reproduced or shared without our permission.
14. If the programme changes
We do our best to deliver the programme exactly as advertised, but weather, group needs, facilitator availability and other practicalities occasionally mean a class, treatment or activity changes. Where we can, we’ll offer something equivalent in its place. These adjustments aren’t grounds for a refund.
15. What to expect from detox and fasting
Fasting, yoga, bodywork and the rest of the programme can bring on temporary physical or emotional responses in some guests — tiredness, headaches, an emotional release, or changes in digestion among them. These are a normal part of the process for many people. Participation in every activity is voluntary; please listen to your body, tell a facilitator if something concerns you, and adjust your involvement as you need to.
16. Travel insurance
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering cancellation, medical care, belongings and travel disruption. Costs incurred outside the programme itself aren’t something we’re able to cover.
Questions about any of this?
We’re happy to talk through anything here before you book — get in touch and we’ll explain in plain terms.
